Green Cleaning & COVID-19: What You Need to Know

Eco-friendly values vs. beating Covid-19? It’s not an either/or choice.

Cleansolution believes in using products that are gentle on the planet and safe for human health. We know that reducing the need for harsh, toxic chemicals can eliminate the risk of some health problems and lower the environmental impact of your building. We also know dealing with COVID-19 in effective ways is priority number one right now. We’ve got good new: green cleaning and COVID-19 don’t cancel each other out.

The world was faced with a new challenge last year as the Covid-19 pandemic rapidly reshaped the public’s thinking about cleanliness and disinfection. Stores and warehouses were rapidly emptied of anti-microbial products, sanitizers, disinfecting wipes and bottles of bleach. Anxiety and uncertainty about the spread of the virus led to unfortunate incidents where mishandling of chemicals and unsafe cleaning techniques resulted in injury.

Keeping your building clean and safe does not always require harsh products.

Sometimes a strong, potentially toxic product is the best choice for the job. In these cases (for example, stripping a floor and applying a new finish), Cleansolution always implements best practices for prepping and ventilating the area, proper dilution and application of the product and supplies our employees with the necessary protective gear for safe use.

But for routine, everyday cleaning and disinfection – even during a pandemic – you can rely on EPA-approved products that don’t carry human health risks or negatively impact the environment.

What makes a cleaning technique “green”?

Great question! Cleansolution takes a big picture, holistic view and implements cleaning methods that protect the health of humans and create the least amount of environmental damage possible. Our perspective goes far beyond what’s in your spray bottle.

Here are some of the ways we keep your building clean and green:

  • Sourcing highly concentrated, long-lasting cleaning solutions in recyclable packaging to reduce waste.
  • Using anti-microbial, microfiber cleaning cloths to wipe down surfaces – no chemicals or single-use materials required!
  • Utilizing effective, EPA-approved disinfectants as alternatives to harsher products, such as bleach.
  • Consulting and implementing standards from the U.S. Green Building Council and their LEED rating system for buildings.

Here are two of our go-to products for combatting Covid-19 and other disease-causing microbes:

Oxivir

This is our go-to disinfectant for green cleaning and COVID-19 prevention! Oxivir is a powerful, hospital-grade disinfectant that is based on hydrogen peroxide and is gentle on most surfaces. Oxivir is an EPA Category IV disinfectant, meaning that it is virtually non-toxic, a non-irritant and does not require any safety warnings. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into harmless oxygen and water after use, minimizing damage to the environment.

Bioesque Botanical Disinfectant Solution

This EPA-registered, broad-spectrum disinfectant can eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus on hard, non-porous surfaces in just 55 seconds! It is based on Thymol, which is derived from thyme oil and is an excellent choice for everyday disinfection needs. This makes it another great option for green cleaning and COVID-19 prevention.
